About the Accessibility of SERC Websites
SERC is committed to making the materials on its websites accessible to the widest possible audience. Our websites are built using current web standards and we strive to follow best practices with regard to accessibility. In general our pages are Section 508 compliant and meet WCAG Priority 1 guidelines.
We are always looking for ways we can improve the accesibility of our websites. If you have suggestions, and especially if you have difficulty using any part of our website we strongly encourage you to get in touch.
About Web Standards and Netscape 4
Our ability to make our websites as widely accessible as they are is largely a result of our use of web standards (also see here). The upside of this approach is that our pages load quickly and work flexibly for a very wide range viewers. The downside is that some folks are using web browsers that are openly hostile to web standards--most notably Netscape 4. In these browsers our pages may be unintelligible.
Since we are serious about our commitment to being accessible to everyone we've worked around this problem by providing alternate pages with the same content for folks who visit with these browsers. Unfortunately we aren't able to dedicate the same amount of effort to making these pages pleasing to the eye. So, if you still use a web browser verison 4 or earlier, we'd strongly encourage you to upgrade. Excellent new browsers are freely available and easy to install. Using one will make many websites (including this one) a little bit friendlier. The folks at ESPN have provided a handy guide to the process.
